My First Video Post to Say Thank You!

First I wanted to say thank you to everyone who read, retweeted, commented on my post last week, 40 Rising Bloggers Who are Heating it Up This Summer. The reaction to it was unbelievable! I’m ecstatic so many people enjoyed it. I’m so happy I made so many people’s day. 110% worth the time and effort!

Today I wanted to do something different and that’s do a video post to say thanks. I’ve never talked into a camera so this was actually harder to do than write a post! I wanted to show you a different side of me.

For those who record videos often, I have lots of respect for you. It’s harder than it looks, at least for me at first.

Take a few minutes to watch the video and let me know how I did! The constant rattling noise is my AC working hard. Sorry about that.

Any questions about the video or anything in my office?

Loved it Benny! What editing program did you use?

    • Benny

Thanks Frank! I used iMovie. Easy to use. Have always wanted to learn Final Cut Pro but the price tag is really high. Hopefully one day! Do you have a Mac or PC?

      • http://frankdickinson.me Frank Dickiinson

        Two PC’s two Macs (I’m a computer junkie)*L*

Yeah Final Cut is like a house payment!

        • Benny

Wow Frank! Do you run space shuttle missions from your office? :)

FCP is like a house payment so I’ll stick with iMovie for now.

Hey Benny, I’ve been thinking about doing a video post too. I feel like it’s almost a have-to-do kind of thing at this point. If you aren’t getting your hands into podcasting or video-blogging then you’re falling behind. It really does give a whole new level of connection…much more personal. I’ll have to give it a go. Thanks for the extra motivation :)

    • Benny

I definitely wanted to do it to show another side of me. People get to know you more when they hear your voice, like with podcasting, or see you on video. Definitely give it a shot. I knew it’s not going to be perfect the first time. Just tried to make it the best I can for now. Look forward to seeing yours Eugene!

What’s up Benny! Love the vid man. Thanks for putting it together. Love the photos too (as you know).

Useless diploma! I love it. Really, they don’t provide much for us – do they.

Again, thanks for putting on your top 40 list. I’m still excited about that!

    Benny’s #1 fan signing off!
Let’s jump on skype (jameskallen) sometime

    PEACE

    • Benny

I know you love the photos!! I had a part where I mentioned you in the video saying I wanted to show you specifically! But I cut that part out. Hahaha.

I’m glad you’re still enjoying the top 40 list. We will Skype sometime soon for sure!

  • http://www.FirepoleMarketing.com Danny @ Firepole Marketing

Hey Benny, great job with the video – you make it look pretty effortless.

Your fiancee looks really lovely. I didn’t catch the wedding date (mine is in September) – when are you getting hitched?

    • Benny

Thanks Danny. Really appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment!

Took out a lot of the “um” and “so” LOL.

My wedding date is in October. We haven’t set a date or place. We’re looking to keep it small. Congrats on your upcoming wedding! We’re all crashing the wedding. Is that okay? :)

  • http://www.juliatarquinio.com Julia

Hey Benny – great idea! I was thinking about doing this for my About section of my blog. Bern from yourgreatlifetv gave me the idea when I first started.
    Did you like doing it?
It was cool to see you in person and learn more about you. I hope things work out with your fiancee’s visa (I’m sure it will :))

    • Benny

Doing it for the about section is a great idea! Bern does an awesome job on his videos. So smooth. Doesn’t fumble his words. I, on the other hand, had a harder time. But yes i enjoyed it! It’s something I hope to do more of in the future as part of a way to get people to know more about me. It’s definitely fun to mix it up.

Glad you enjoyed it. Want to appear more “real” by having a video. As for the visa, she’s about to have an interview later in the month and that’s the last step to get approved. I’m sure she’ll pass. :)

  • http://markharai.com Mark

Hi Benny – you’re doing some great work here sir… keep up the great work and video should be part of the mix — you did a great job with it.

    Cheers!

    • Benny

Thanks Mark! Just wanted to show another side of me.

      I appreciate the feedback Mark!

  • http://adriennesmith.net Adrienne

Awesome job Benny… Loved actually seeing you AND hearing you! I hope you’ll do more. I know that first one is always uncomfortable but you did good my friend.

Thank YOU for showcasing all of us in your “40 Rising Bloggers Who are Heating it Up This Summer” post. Really appreciate you taking the time and I’ve had some visitors to my place from that post so thank YOU my friend. You’re awesome. Have I told you that enough? Sure hope so.

Loved the video and loved the post. That’s my take! :-)

    • Benny

Yes looking at the first one so many things I would have done different but I know the first one is never going to be the best one.

I hope to find more chances to do more videos down the road!

Thanks so much for your take. It’s always appreciated!!

  • http://www.onelovemeg.com Meg

Hi Benny! It really was a great post. I really want to create a page to brag about my favorite bloggers. I think its the best way to gain exposure about new sites! Thanks for doing all the handwork for us.

    • Benny

You should do it Meg! Everyone’s got their favorites and it’s a great way to show them off. Who doesn’t love some attention too. :)

  • http://www.lifeforinstance.com Lori Gosselin

    Hi Benny,
I’m impressed that you did this video – your first one!? And I’m curious as to why your diploma is “useless”!?
I’m also glad I found your blog :-)
    Lori

    • Benny

      Hi Lori!

Yes my first one. Thank you for the kind words! I feel like my diploma is useless cause it didn’t teach me anything that I still use today. I took classes that I can’t even remember. My favorite class that I remember is “acting for non-majors”.

It didn’t teach me about being 100% responsible for my life. Life doesn’t hand me chances without putting in the work. It didn’t teach me about goal setting. It didn’t teach me about how important our thoughts are. It didn’t teach me the importance of momentum and slow and steady wins the race. It didn’t teach me so many things that I’ve learned in just six months of taking action. :)

Glad you found my blog too!

  • http://www.endeavor-online.com Adam Paudyal

Benny, this is great my friend. I loved the video as well as your previous post on 40 rising bloggers that are heating up this summer.

    Keep it coming my friend!
    Talk soon.

    • Benny

Thanks Adam for being a regular here. I’m glad you enjoyed the video and last week’s post!

Keep up the good work as well!

  • http://30vanquish.com Matt R

    Hey Benny!
Awesome video. It made me smile the whole time. I like how you used the background behind you as scenery that you could comment on! All the best to your upcoming wedding!

    • Benny

Thanks Matt! That’s the best comment I’ve gotten so far. Really appreciate that!

  • http://suitcaseentrepreneur.com Natalie Sisson

Great work Benny. I love videos. I like making a fool of myself and I’m also a big fan of Gary Vaynerchuk’s method which is one take only – always makes for it being more natural.

I wanna see more. The trick is having a theme for content and planning what you want to deliver on each time.

    Natalie

    • Benny

Thanks Natalie. Maybe later when I get more comfortable I may try one take. I tried and too many stops and pauses cause it’s unnatural to be looking at a small camera and talking. For those who do it, like yourself, you make it look so easy!

Thanks for the advice about having a theme for content and planning on what to deliver. I will keep that in mind for sure. :)

  • http://smartincomeblog.com Kevin Douglas

Great vlog post, Benny! BennyHsuTV may become bigger than JustinTV! Hopefully, you’re opening up your own channel on YouTube so we can all subscribe, right? RIGHT??!!! (hint, hint)

    • Benny

      Thanks Kevin!

If it’s bigger than JustinTV, I’ll be picking you up in my private jet! If I open up my own channel I expect some how-to-dance videos from Kevin Douglas! Views would go way up!!

      • http://smartincomeblog.com Kevin Douglas

        Done, my friend!

        • http://twitter.com/jonknep jonknep

Where can i find these how-to dance videos Kev?

        • Benny

Ok Jon said he’s waiting for them too. It’s a bit weird that two guys are waiting for a dancing video…Hahahaha.

  • http://www.motivationalmemo.com Peter G. James Sinclair

Hey Benny – great video…you have to do more. You’re a natural. Glad you enjoyed Sydney. I live on the Gold Coast! All the best for the wedding!

    • Benny

Thanks Peter! We loved Sydney. Actually a couple days ago we were talking about how much we wanted to go back. Hopefully sometime next year! Thanks for your well wishes!

  • http://www.marianneworley.com Marianne Worley

Great job on the video Benny! Definitely seemed liked you’ve done many video posts before. And it’s always nice to match a face to a voice. Thanks again for including me in your list.

    • Benny

Hey Marianne! I just wanted everyone to match a face to a voice. See another side of me. I hope the list brought in some new readers. Thanks for the kind words about the video!

  • http://smartboydesigns.com Christian Hollingsworth

It’s so great to see your face and hear your voice Benny. You’ve been a light and inspiration for me for all the months I’ve known you now – and appreciate all the input and support you give me. Thank you for being a star blogger!

    • Benny

You’re welcome! You made recording video look so easy!! I’m glad I’m able to finally reveal more of myself. Thanks for being part of my inner circle!

  • http://SourcesOfInsight.com J.D. Meier

Good move on breaking out of your pattern to test a another path.

I think your conversational, down to Earth, approach works well, writing and video.

    • Benny

Thanks for the really kind words J.D. It’s something I’ve been wanting to do but had no audience before. Now I have a small one and also wanted people to be able to see the real me.

Thanks for your comment. Really appreciate that!

  • http://www.hollandz.com Brad

Benny, dude… you have wedding photos before you’re married. That is wild…. I understand the need to save money, our wedding photography was expensive..

Anyway, killer vid my man. It looks like you’ve done this before…It’s good to see the real live you. Keep up the good work. I think I better get a vid online just to keep up with everyone….

    B.rad

    • Benny

Hey Brad! Yeah it’s a bit backwards I know. It definitely confuses some people. We just thought we might as well do it then since I was there. Plus we thought if we took it next year sometime, we’d be a year older. Hahaha. Taipei is the place to do it. So many Taiwanese girls go back with their non-Chinese husbands or fiance to take photos.

Glad you’re able to see my live and see that I’m not all that creepy. You better get a video up man. Maybe something for you about page for your design company. Just an idea.

Thanks for coming by as always Brad!

  • http://dosomethingcool.net Steve

Great job on the video post. I’ve never done one before and wouldn’t know what to do, but I think it would be a great learning experience.

It’s always exciting when one of your posts gets a lot of attention, but you deserve it. You put a lot of work into it. I was a little late to getting to that post since I’m way behind on things. But it was easy to tell that you got a good response.

    • Benny

Thanks so much Steve. It’s never too late to come by. :)

The video was something out of my comfort zone that I’ve wanted to do for a long time, even before I started blogging, but never had an audience. I thought this would be a great time to make a video and show everyone more of myself.

I’m working hard on really building a great community and appreciate you being a part of it! You’re doing great things as well and definitely was a no brainer to add to my list of 40.

  • http://www.imamoneygrubber.com Paul

Awesome job with the video! Are you thinking about branching out into the youtube market now? I know a couple people here in LA that are making a killing on youtube videos. Maybe you’ve heard of the Wong Fu production guys? Anyways, I’ve been thinking about branching out recently too. But I should really try to build up my blog some more

    • Benny

Thanks Paul! I’d love to branch out to Youtube but I’d have to produce some seriously entertaining stuff. Oh yeah I know Wong Fu productions. Do you know the Wong Fu guys? I found out about them maybe a couple years ago and really liked their videos. I watched their videos when they went on tour around the country and thought that was so cool. They’re definitely living the dream. I like Kev Jumba and Ryan Higa too. Those two make me laugh. Lots more Asians on Youtube making a killing. I know some of the big Youtube channels make six figures a year!! !

I don’t know if I’ll be doing comedy (you never know) but for now want to share my content in different formats. Plus I want people to get to know me more and having them see a video of me is a great way I think.

You should definitely do some video! Hopefully I’ve motivated you a little. :)

  • http://twitter.com/jonknep jonknep

Keep up the great work Benny! It’s been a real treat to watch your blog grow and thanks for all the valuable content you put together! Now let’s see some more videos!

    Jonathon

    • Benny

Thank Jon! I’ll get some more videos out in the near future for sure! Appreciate all your support man.

And Kevin owes us some dance videos for sure!

  • http://www.annieandre.com annie andre

    Benny, one word “FINALLY!!!!!!”

it was great to see you in real-time. I thought the same thing when i did my first video. It was way harder than i thought it would be. but i think it’s going to get easier. RIGHT? hahah.

overall, i loved it and can’t wait to see what you come up with next.
    Cheers,
    Annie

    • Benny

I’m glad!! It was great to see you in real time and know that makes such a big different for people who visit your blog. That’s what I wanted to show readers here.

It should get easier….I hope. Hahahaha

      Glad you enjoyed it Annie!

  • John

Benny, great job on the video! You did great for your first one. I can tell you cut some parts out in the editing, I can imagine you had a few re-takes. :-)

    • Benny

      Hey John!

LOL yes I definitely had to edit it because I had lots of mistakes. I’d lose my train of thought while talking cause it was my first video. I hope to get better with each one.

Thanks so much for leaving a comment!

  • Alison Fishman

Good job! People always say “it’s great to put a name to a face” but in the blog world it should be “it’s great to put a face to a personality”. You’ve got good vibes!

    • Benny

Thanks so much Alison for saying that! Really appreciate that. :)

  • http://dollartemplatesandfonts.com/blog/ Allyson Stewart

Hey, Benny! Great video. It was great seeing you from another angle. You did an amazing job on your first video!

And you are so welcome. I really enjoyed reading your post about the 40 rising bloggers you follow. As I read about each person, I knew it must have taken a while to write that post (as mentioned in your video). They must all be truly special.

I also enjoy visiting your blog and reading about the new insights you have to offer.

Until next time… Take care and thanks.
