Get Busy Living Podcast http://getbusylivingblog.com Helping You Live an Epic Life Thu, 05 Mar 2015 14:17:14 +0000 en-US hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=4.1.1The Get Busy Living podcast is a show for those who feel stuck, want to achieve your goals or want to learn how to make life exciting again. It's personal development and self help from someone you can relate to.Benny Hsu followed the checklist in life after graduating for college. He got a job, bought a house, car, and collected a paycheck every two weeks. Life looked great on the outside, but inside life was slowing killing him. He wasted his 20's by hoping for a miracle. It never came. He decided in his 30's to stop hoping his life would change and actually did something about it. Now he writes at Getbusylivingblog.com where he helps others get unstuck in life and start living again. He develops iPhone and iPad apps full time. His first app, Photo 365, was released in August 2011 and three weeks later was featured as Apple's App of the Week worldwide. In the podcast, he talks about many topics on self help, personal development, and better living. I’m very thankful that all the years of trying and failing have finally paid off. I’m living my dreams.

It hasn’t been easy to get to this point though. In fact, I think I have taken longer than most people who are making money online. It does seem some do well on their first attempt.

It’s very possible, but I think that’s not the norm. I wish it were that easy for me. My first attempt didn’t go that well. Nor did the next or the following attempts. In fact it took many years and many embarrassing ways that I tried to make money online.

The reason I want to talk about it in today’s episode is because I know many of you have this fear of trying. I’m telling you to start now. Because your first attempt may not be successful. It’ll probably be embarrassing when you look back on it, but with each try you move slightly closer and closer.

I know that’s what helped me. At the time it felt like I was going backwards or making no progress but it all led me to where I am today.

Take a look at the bookstore or Google productivity tips and you’ll find so much advice that you feel like your head will explode. We’re doing things in our daily lives that appear to be helping us, but actually causes more stress in the short and long term. Not only that but these time thieves sneak up on us. We often don’t realize we’re even doing them.

In today’s episode I talk about three time wasters that you’re probably doing every day. Once these are identified then you can begin to find solutions to prevent them.

GBL 034: Get Your Priorities Straighthttp://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-034-get-your-priorities-straight/ http://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-034-get-your-priorities-straight/#comments Mon, 26 Jan 2015 21:09:52 +0000 http://getbusylivingblog.com/?p=6768 When I look back, if there’s one thing that has helped achieve so much it’s been that I’ve prioritized what’s important to me and don’t worry about the rest.

I began this new chapter in October 2010. I hit my rock bottom and needed change badly. My first priority was to get healthy. At that time I was out of shape and fat for my standards. I knew if I wanted to change anything about me the first thing I could do and get the quickest results was exercise and lose weight. So I focused on training for a half marathon and I cleaned up my diet for the next three months.

After I finished the half marathon I had lost 15 pounds, and had confidence through the roof. My next focus was starting this blog and development of Photo 365, which both began in January 2011. That year I didn’t juggle too many projects. My priorities were growing this blog and the app. That’s it. By the end of the year Photo 365 was a success and this blog had grown.

In 2012, my priorities were to make enough money to finally quit my job. The plan was to create a course for this blog and develop more apps. That I accomplished both, but financially my goals weren’t. It wasn’t because I lacked getting my priorities straight.

In 2013, I decided to finally quit my job. Just couldn’t take it anymore and couldn’t keep waiting for the right moment to quit when my online income matched what I was making at the restaurant. It was scary to do that but I needed to. So my #1 priority was make money. I had the same priority in 2012 but what I tried didn’t work. So I had to try something different and I did. I began reskinning iPhone games and by the end of the year, thanks to being solely focused on that and pushing everything else aside, I was able to breath a sigh of reflief by the end of the year.

Then last year I discovered Teespring and the business model of selling shirts online. I soon become obsessed with this and made this my #1 business priority. I even stopped reskinning apps even though it was profitable for me. I knew I wouldn’t have enough time to do both. Again this paid off very well for me and I had my very first $100k year online.

So what are your priorities for the year? You can have more than one but it’s best to choose one main priority in different areas in your life. You can choose a priority for family, business, spiritual, financial and lifestyle. Last year my wife and I made it a priority to travel since 2013 we didn’t in order to save every penny we could since I quit my job and no income was coming in. So in 2014 we made up for that by nearly traveling once a month. Because we made it a priority, we achieved it.

I hope you enjoy today’s episode and become clear what your priorities are for this year.

GBL 033: Did you do your annual life checkup yet?http://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-033-did-you-do-your-annual-life-checkup-yet/ http://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-033-did-you-do-your-annual-life-checkup-yet/#comments Wed, 14 Jan 2015 16:13:15 +0000 http://getbusylivingblog.com/?p=6753 Living in the past is never a good thing. I’m a believe that we have to let go of the past in order to move forward. However I am a believer at taking the time to reflect on the past 12 months. It’s like going to the dentist or the doctor’s for a regular check up, but less painful.

By reflecting on the past 12 months, it lets us take time to assess what we have done. What did we do well? What did we do poorly? What do we need to do more of? What do we need to do less of? These questions and more can help us make sure that we’re on the right track for the next 12 months.

We don’t want to be a dog chasing our tail and end up in the same situation, as the same person, and wasted a whole year.

That’s why before we get too far along in 2015, it’s best to take time to do a year in review.

Here are links mentioned in this episode:

  • Morning routine - In episode 10, I did an interview with Hal Elrod who talks about how a morning routine can change your life.
  • A worksheet for your own year in review

GBL 032: Answering a Reader Email - How to turn a passion into a career?http://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-032-answering-a-reader-email-how-to-turn-a-passion-into-a-career/ http://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-032-answering-a-reader-email-how-to-turn-a-passion-into-a-career/#comments Mon, 08 Dec 2014 12:00:31 +0000 http://getbusylivingblog.com/?p=6691 What are Your Skills and Passions - Venn Diagram

In today’s episode I answer an email I received. It wasn’t meant to be answered on the podcast, but it was a question that is very common so I felt it would be helpful to record a podcast episode about it.

A reader is in a job now but wants to do something more fulfilling. She has many passions but doesn’t know how to turn that into a thriving career.

Does this sound like you? I know many of you are in a job that’s going nowhere. You’re tired of just doing the same work day after day. You have ideas of what you like to do, but are unsure how you can monetize that.

It doesn’t matter what age you are. You can be 30 or 50 years old. It’s not too late to change directions and begin doing something on your own. Because running your own business doesn’t require a resume or a job interview so you don’t have to worry about being not qualified or being too old.

And the skills and experience you have gained can be transferred to running your own business.

If this is a question that you have then this is a great podcast episode to listen to.

Have you ever made resolutions and failed? The majority of you said yes. I have. When I did make resolutions I started well for the first couple weeks but after that I completely went back to my old ways. By the end of the year, I felt like nothing had changed in my life. Then I’d make those same resolutions again.

I stopped making resolutions and my life has been better.

With a month left till 2015, I felt the need to talk about this because there are many of you looking at 2015 as a new fresh start. So you’re preparing in your mind what changes you want to make for 2015.

I talk about why you shouldn’t make resolutions and why in today’s podcast episode.

At first I ignored it, but when I came across it the third time, I felt I should read it. The headline caught my attention. A story about regret from a 46 year old man. Why had it gone viral? I read it and what he said wasn’t anything that others have gone through. I think it’s because his story is so relatable and he publicly shared it that it became viral.

When reading his story, I just saw a life that so many people live. No matter at what age. Those who are similar to his age realize they have neglected what’s most important in life. They’ve lost their identity.

Those who are younger can feel they are heading down this path and are scared.

In today’s podcast, I share that story and offer my own advice so that you can avoid the same fate.

GBL 029: Stop Waiting For Life to Get Betterhttp://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-029-stop-waiting-for-life-to-get-better/ http://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-029-stop-waiting-for-life-to-get-better/#comments Mon, 13 Oct 2014 11:00:47 +0000 http://getbusylivingblog.com/?p=6581 Stop

In my podcast episodes, I often address a problem that is common for a lot of people. It’s always a problem I’ve dealt with first hand and I know there are so many others that have that issue.

The problem for this episode is believing that just waiting long enough and good things will start to happen. Yes good things come to those who wait, but those who are waiting are also taking action. Good things don’t come to people who wait around for luck to happen. They’re waiting for someone to come into their lives and grant them three wishes.

In this short, but to the point episode, I give a wake up call to those who need it. It’s for those who wait around for change to happen. (Hint: You’ll be waiting for a very long time.)

GBL 028: Lessons from Earning $100K in profit in Five Monthshttp://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-028-lessons-from-earning-100k-in-profit-in-five-months/ http://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-028-lessons-from-earning-100k-in-profit-in-five-months/#comments Thu, 02 Oct 2014 21:30:23 +0000 http://getbusylivingblog.com/?p=6567 I’m excited to talk about today’s podcast episode because I’ve been working really hard on it this year. In fact it is my full time business now. I was a beginner was I started. The idea of selling t-shirts online sounded great. Liking an idea and committing to that idea to become successful are completely different.

I talk about the business but more importantly I talk about lessons that helped me get to earning six-figures in profit in just five month. I know it seems like some too good to be true story, but it’s not. In fact, there are sellers who are making way more than me.

Four years ago if you told me I could make this much money selling t-shirts, I would have said no way. However, companies like Teespring.com empower individuals to run a t-shirt business with zero up front costs. It’s amazing.

I hope this podcast episode gets you start on an idea you have in your mind

I know there may be some of you that want to start selling t-shirts after listening to this episode. I don’t have my own course, so wanted to find a course that I’ve bought and gone through that I could recommend. There are lots of courses these days, but this will provide a nice foundation for a reasonable price.

I can’t seem to relax. When I’m standing in front of my computer, I feel like there are a hundred things I need to be doing. If I’m not on my computer, I’m on my iPad or iPhone. That makes me feel stressed out and unable to focus for long periods of time. My mind is jumping from one thing to another.

Even when I’m trying to read a book, my mind begins to drift just a few minutes after reading.

It’s a problem that I want to solve. I want to have more focus and feel more calm. I don’t like feeling jittery. I want to be more productive because I have better focus.

In today’s episode I share the techniques I’m using now and will be using to improve in this area. It can be improved. We didn’t just wake up and have short attention spans. It’s because of the habits we’ve built over time. It’s because our mind isn’t trained enough.

I believe if this is one area we can improve, we can be more productive and feel an overall sense of calm in this busy world we live in today.

GBL 026: How to go from Day Job to Dream Job - Interview with Kary Oberbrunnerhttp://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-026-how-to-go-from-day-job-to-dream-job-interview-with-kary-oberbrunner/ http://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-026-how-to-go-from-day-job-to-dream-job-interview-with-kary-oberbrunner/#comments Thu, 28 Aug 2014 19:13:37 +0000 http://getbusylivingblog.com/?p=6486 Kary Oberbrunner Day Job to Dream Job

Are you stuck in a job and so badly want to get out? Do you dread each day you have to go to work? Life is too short to be doing work you hate. We live in a world today where it’s easier to create your dream job. Yes it’s true! Five years ago I wouldn’t have been able to create an iPhone app. It’s easier than ever to publish your own book and keep more of the money through Amazon Kindle. A job used to require being in an office, but now it just takes a computer and internet and that work can be done anywhere in the world.

I really wanted to get Kary on the podcast because he helps individuals find their purpose in life. He helps guide them from escaping their day job to going after their dream job.

He not only wrote about how to do that, but he went through his own escape. He was in a typical job and on his way for a promotion when it just didn’t feel right for him. While many people would think he’d be crazy for leaving a great job, he still did. Now he’s a writer, speaker, and coach working with individuals and organizations on reaching their true potential.

In this interview, I ask him about making that transition. He shares so much great stuff!

A must listen if you want to escape your day job prison.

There’s not amount of books you can read, podcasts you can listen to, praying and hoping to change your life without one very important ingredient. That’s taking action.

I’m not talking about doing a little bit. I’m taking about taking massive action. The type that goes on for days, weeks, months, and even years.

No one in life that has their dream life has achieved it without taking massive action. It’s true! Ask anyone and they can tell you what they had to do.

Too many people wish for a better life, but are so afraid to not only take action, but to take that first step. They’re fear failure. They hope for the easy way out They hope it’s painless.

It won’t be and it will never be.

I used to be THAT guy. The one that feared failing again. The one that wanted the perfect outcome with very little work. Too me too many years to finally wise up, but I finally did.

GBL 024: How Gratitude Can Change Your Lifehttp://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-024-how-gratitude-can-change-your-life/ http://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-024-how-gratitude-can-change-your-life/#comments Sat, 09 Aug 2014 22:56:11 +0000 http://getbusylivingblog.com/?p=6443 Get Busy Living Podcast 24 How Gratitude Can change your life

How often do you stop and appreciate what you do have? I know sometimes it’s hard. You’re busy. You have a million things going through our mind. The last thing you do is to take time to be thankful for what you do have in this busy world.

You might also feel lost right now. Your life isn’t going the way you want. You constantly complain. You focus on what you don’t have in life.

You might not be realizing that the thoughts you constantly have about wishing for a better life or complaining about what’s not going well is holding you back. You keep that cycle of negativity going.

It’s time to start getting you to change your mindset. You can do that by practicing gratitude. Gratitude isn’t something you should just do once a year at Thanksgiving. It should be as common as brushing your teeth.

It’s scientifically proven! Research has shown that those who practice gratitude have less stress, better health, better relationships, and more wealth. I know you would love those!

Even though you think everything in your life is going wrong right now, there are still things you can be thankful for.

What’s great about practicing gratitude is that it doesn’t take very long, it’s completely free, and when done consistently it will change your life. It has helped me and I still continue to be thankful for so many things.

If you keep thinking about what you don’t have, you’ll never have more. If you appreciate what you do have now, you’ll get more.

Enjoy this podcast! It could be life changing.

GBL 023: Who do you need to become to have success?http://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-023-who-do-you-need-to-become-to-have-success/ http://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-023-who-do-you-need-to-become-to-have-success/#comments Thu, 31 Jul 2014 20:09:41 +0000 http://getbusylivingblog.com/?p=6429 Let me ask you a question. If you had a goal of (insert your goal), what would be the first thing you do? You’d probably figure out what steps you need to take. Right? Well that’s not a bad way to start, but it’s not the best way.

The problem with just following the steps to achieving your goal is the baggage you carry along with it. You might have a goal to start your own business, but the baggage you’re carrying is years of failures, low self confidence, self-doubt, bad habits, and a bad attitude. You’re dragging yourself down before you even try to begin.

Then you do begin and you’re working hard, but you’re wondering why you’re not seeing success. Next thing you know you quit. You’re back to where you started. Maybe you’re worse off because you feel like a failure.

You continue this cycle with any new goal you try. You just don’t know why you never have success.

In today’s podcast, I want to share with you what you’re missing. What you don’t need is only a plan of action. What you need to do first is to become the type of person that would achieve those types of goals.

You need to change on the inside first if you truly want to see change on the outside. The common mistake is trying to change on the outside, hoping that it changes you on the inside.

When I learned and began doing it, I began seeing huge changes on the outside. More importantly, I had changed as a person first so that I could get the results I wanted on the outside.

GBL 022: Why not you?http://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-022-why-not-you/ http://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-022-why-not-you/#comments Thu, 24 Jul 2014 16:38:18 +0000 http://getbusylivingblog.com/?p=6396 Why Not You? Get Busy Living Podcast episode 22

Have you ever asked yourself this question? Why not you? Why can’t you change your life? Why can’t you achieve your dreams? Other people from all walks of life have been able to so why can’t you?

We often doubt our own abilities. We see someone with success and immediately we think that they just got lucky, we’re not that smart, or they must have a lot of money to begin with.

Most of the time that’s not the case.

Instead of thinking those beliefs that will hold us back, it’s better to think “why not us?” If they can do it, then why can’t we as well?

This blog, my podcast, and my online business are proof to me that believing “Why not me?” at least gave myself a chance to succeed. I used to have doubt that I could really create the life I wanted. Others were doing it and I was jealous of them. I just didn’t have much hope it was possible for me.

I had to change my beliefs just to give myself a fighting chance and that’s what I did. I saw others doing what I wanted to do and thought “Why not me?” If they could do it, I could do it as well.

That’s the topic of today’s podcast. I hope you enjoy it and get you to start believing in yourself even when you can’t see the finish line ahead yet.

GBL 021: Why Choosing Who You Spend the Most Time With is So Important for Your Futurehttp://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-021-why-choosing-who-you-spend-the-most-time-with-is-so-important-for-your-future/ http://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl-021-why-choosing-who-you-spend-the-most-time-with-is-so-important-for-your-future/#comments Thu, 17 Jul 2014 15:19:52 +0000 http://getbusylivingblog.com/?p=6385 Get Busy Living Podcast 21

Who do you spend the most time with? Who are your conversations with on and offline most of the day? If you haven’t thought much about it, then I suggest you start to think about it because your future depends on it.

Jim Rohn said we are the average of the five people we spent he most time with. He could tell our wealth, health, and quality of our relationships just be knowing more about those five people.

We don’t pay much attention to who we spend the most time with. Sometimes it’s not our choice, but sometimes we do have a choice. Imagine hanging out with co-workers after work and everyone is talking about how much they hate their job, or how stupid the boss was today. You’re going to join in on the conversation so you won’t be left out of the group.

How will you feel afterwards? You’re going to remember how much you hate your job, how your life sucks, how you have these big dreams, but haven’t done anything with them. It’s one negative thought after another.

If you truly want to be a better version of yourself and reach those big dreams you have, you can’t be spending time with people who don’t share the same dreams as you.

Like I share to on my newsletter, you can’t be an eagle if you always hang out with chickens. Soon enough you’ll believe that you’re just a chicken.

In episode 21, I talk about the importance of choosing who you spend time with. I give advice on how to handle people you can’t remove from your life like a family member or relative.

What is the microwave mentality? It’s expecting instant results. Because of technology, we expect everything to happen in our life quicker. Yes sometimes having things happen quicker is beneficial, but when it comes to achieve your dreams or change something about yourself, quicker is not better.

What happens is when we expect instant results, we get disappointed easily when it doesn’t happen. We want to lose all the weight we’ve gained in the past five years, in just five weeks. We start with zero and expect to earn $100,000 from our new online business in just three months.

We just can’t keep doing this. Stopping the microwave mentality is key to releasing the brakes that are holding you back.

In today’s episode, I talk about it, how it hurts us, and what we should be doing instead. I also share a story of the magic penny that exemplifies why being patience and consistent is the better choice.

Enjoy!

Yes sometimes having things happen quicker is beneficial, but when it comes to achieve your dreams or change something about yourself, quicker is not better. What happens is when we expect instant results, we get disappointed easily when it doesn't happen. We want to lose all the weight we've gained in the past five years, in just five weeks. We start with zero and expect to earn $100,000 from our new online business in just three months. We just can't keep doing this. Stopping the microwave mentality is key to releasing the brakes that are holding you back.In today's episode, I talk about it, how it hurts us, and what we should be doing instead. I also share a story of the magic penny that exemplifies why being patience and consistent is the better choice.Enjoy! GBL018: One Year After Finally Quitting My Job and Going All Inhttp://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl018-one-year-after-finally-quitting-my-job-and-going-all-in/ http://getbusylivingblog.com/gbl018-one-year-after-finally-quitting-my-job-and-going-all-in/#comments Thu, 26 Jun 2014 12:51:26 +0000 http://getbusylivingblog.com/?p=6347 Get Busy Living Podcast 18

Hello again! It’s been way too long. I apologize for the month gap between episodes 17 and 18. No excuses from me except that being overseas and out of my normal routine made it tougher for me to find time to do a podcast.

Now I’m back at home and ready to get back to doing what I love, which is podcasting! Since my podcast started in January, it has been downloaded now over 100,000 times! Thank you to each and everyone one of you for listening. I appreciate the emails I get from you and that’s why I love podcasting.

Today’s episode is about my one year anniversary of quitting my job and deciding to go all in with my online business. I’ve been wanting to be my own boss since my mid 20’s, but couldn’t figure out what type of online business to start.

Even when I did start an online business developing iPhone apps, I didn’t quit right away after I tasted success. I stayed at my job for another 1.5 year after the release of Photo 365. I was waiting to see how much I would be making consistently from apps. If my income equaled or surpassed my monthly paycheck, then I would quit.

However, it never did. It was frustrating because I was so ready to quit my job. I hated going to work. I hated feeling like I was wasting my time there. Time that could be used towards something more productive. At least doing something I enjoyed more!

So last year in June, I made the decision to quit my job before I was financially ready. It was scary. I was going to live off of whatever I had in my bank accounts and hoping I could increase my online income very soon.

I talk about 2013, what I did, how I went through a low point, and how the year turned out.

I mention three pieces of advice to help you if you’re in the same situation as I was.

(Note: I just realized I mentioned saving $100 a day if you know you want to quit your job. I meant to say $100 a month. More reasonable.)

A link that I mentioned in the podcast.

I got an email from a woman who told me about her fear of rejection. It’s one of the biggest fears holding us back from a lot of things in life. She has always had a passion for writing, but fear being rejected. And her next sentence was what really stood out to me. She wanted to convince herself that her writing talents were good enough to share with the whole world.

The whole world? That’s a lot of people to please. How could I help her?

The reality is that we can’t please everyone, but sometimes we really want to. If it is not perfect and loved by all, we don’t want to do it.

We want everyone person that comes across what we do to love it. We don’t want to see any 1 star reviews. We don’t want to get a refund on a product or course we are selling.

If we write, blog, sing, act, dance, cook, or create anything, the reality is not everyone will love it. We have no idea how something we create will be received and we definitely cannot please every single person. I’ve gotten two one star reviews for this podcast. I don’t know why. I never thought it was that bad, but obviously someone really doesn’t like it. That’s okay. I can’t please everyone. It’s impossible.

Even you might see a movie you absolutely love. You tell your friends about that same movie, they go watch it, and think it’s the worst movie ever. Same exact movie. What happened?

That director makes the best movie possible. It’s impossible to please the whole world. Some will like it. Some won’t. That doesn’t stop directors from continuing to make movies.
I told her don’t convince herself her writing was great enough for the whole world. That is the wrong approach. Don’t even think about what others will think.

In today’s episode, I talk more about stop trying to make everyone happy. If you’re trying to be perfect, you’ll never finish it because perfect is elusive. When you think you’re done, you’ll find something else wrong with it.

015: The Battle Between Making Easy vs. Hard Choiceshttp://getbusylivingblog.com/015-the-battle-between-making-easy-vs-hard-choices/ http://getbusylivingblog.com/015-the-battle-between-making-easy-vs-hard-choices/#comments Thu, 17 Apr 2014 11:38:57 +0000 http://getbusylivingblog.com/?p=6220

Get Busy Living Podcast Episode 15

When I think back over my life, I’ve found that time and time again, the hard choices I’ve made were the ones that provided lasting positive change in my life. When I took the easy road, it didn’t have any impact – it was only the hard choices that really brought about change.

I’m where I am today because I’ve had to make hard choices the past three years. They weren’t the most fun at the time. I would have rather been goofing off, watching movies, whatever was on TV, reading magazines. but I knew I had taken the easy road before that and it led to a life I didn’t want.

If you feel like you’re not making any progress in life, or your just feel stuck, take a look at the type of choices you are making on a consistent basis.

Typically these fall into two categories: easy or hard.

The easy choice take no willpower to do. You just do them. You’re more than happy to do them. It’s comfortable. It’s easy because you’ve done it hundreds or thousands of times. It has become a habit.

The hard choice take a lot of willpower. You don’t automatically make that choice. It makes you uncomfortable. You may not want to do it. It’s hard to do because you haven’t done it that often. It’s not a habit.

When faced with a choice, we immediately will choose the easy one. It’s naturally what we want to do. We always want everything to be easier in our life. Easy feels good. Easy feels relaxing. Easy is stress free.

But the easy choice sometimes is disguised as the wrong one. It appears as the choice that will make you happier, but making the easy choice the majority of the time will lead to unwanted results in your life.

On the other hand, when you make the hard choice the majority of the time, it can lead to extraordinary results. The hard choice is what you know you should be doing. The hard choice will lead you to the edge of your comfort zone. It gets you closer to the goals you dream about.

It is a tough battle when deciding between the two. They don’t get along. They’re like the angel and the devil that sits on your shoulders talking to you. Each one wants you to listen to them.

The easy choice wants you to take the rest of the day off. Just begin tomorrow it tells you. It wants you to turn on the TV and find something interesting to watch, instead of what you really need to be doing.

The hard choice wants you to do what you said you were going to do. It doesn’t want you to put it off till tomorrow. It wants to make your dreams come true for you, but it can’t do it for you. You have to do the work. It tells you to turn off the TV, and do what you should be doing.

Which one do you choose most of the time?

Flying in the A380 Suites

This episode is about one of my favorite hobbies. It’s something I began to do when I started to get busy living.

I went back and forth if I should do an episode about this because it’s different than the topics I’ve covered so far. However to me it fits under the get busy living theme. I’m sure many of you love to travel or would love to travel more. You want to travel like a millionaire without actually paying full price.

I’m going to say before you decide to listen to this episode or not is if traveling isn’t for you, then this podcast won’t be helpful to you. I just want to be honest upfront because I know your time is valuable.

If you don’t live in the United States, it’s going to be harder to take advantage of many of the offers I talk about. It doesn’t mean there aren’t travel deals in the country you live, but everything I talk about assumes that you live in the United States.

I know i have listeners from all around the world and just want to be upfront because I value your time.

If you’re still with me, then let’s get started to talk about traveling.

Traveling is something that I wanted to do more of when I dreamt of the type of life I wanted to create. That’s why I wanted more freedom in life. I wanted to travel. Traveling gets me excited. I love being at airports. I get excited the night before I know we’re going somewhere.

However if I wanted to be able to travel more, I had to figure out a way to make it more affordable. That’s what led me to travel hacking starting in 2011. And it has allowed my wife and I to take trips we would never be able to afford.

When we travel now, I look at our options for flights and hotels. Sometimes I’ll use the points and miles I’ve collected to lower the cost or make it free. Or if the price is right, I’ll just pay and save those points and miles.

The points and miles have allowed us to take amazing trips, stay in nice hotels for half the cost.

I hope by the end of the episode you get a great overview of the potential with travel hacking and how to get started.

Some topics I cover:

  • What is a mistake fare?
  • How we stayed in a $550 per night hotel for only$164 per night
  • What is travel hacking?
  • How i got started with travel hacking
  • My mistake when getting my first credit card
  • How to get a two night stay valued at $2000+ for free
  • Why changing your points into cash is a horrible idea
  • How to quickly get elite status at hotels
  • How to check in luggage for free
  • Who should not be signing up for credit cards
  • How to double the rewards you get
  • When I keep paying the annual free and when I cancel
  • An example of how my wife will fly domestically for free with me until the end of 2015
  • and more…

013: Life’s Too Short to Settle for Average Lovehttp://getbusylivingblog.com/013-lifes-too-short-to-settle-for-average-love/ http://getbusylivingblog.com/013-lifes-too-short-to-settle-for-average-love/#comments Thu, 03 Apr 2014 12:47:34 +0000 http://getbusylivingblog.com/?p=6203 Get Busy Living podcast 13

We’re going to have a lot of average things in our life, but love shouldn’t be one of them.

Just because we get along with someone so well doesn’t mean they are the best for us. Sometimes true love isn’t simple, but in many ways, it’s always worth it. I know it’s hard to do most times, because when there’s nothing really wrong with our relationship there’s no reason to break up, but there is.

If your heart has been telling you something else for awhile, then maybe it’s time to listen to it.

Because we need to and deserve love that leaves us feeling thankful everyday.

If that’s what you want, don’t settle till you have it.

I’m lucky I found extraordinary love, but it wasn’t easy. To meet my wife, I had to go through tough times and uncertainty. I didn’t just meet my wife and knew immediately I was going to marry her. I wish it was that easy. I had to break someone’s heart first, trust my gut, and then take risks I’ve never taken before.

Hope you enjoy episode 13!

To meet my wife, I had to go through tough times and uncertainty. I didn't just meet my wife and knew immediately I was going to marry her. I wish it was that easy. I had to break someone's heart first, trust my gut, and then take risks I've never taken before.Hope you enjoy episode 13! What to do with your life when you have no idea

You’re ready to change your life. You’re motivated. You’re willing to work so hard to succeed, but there is one problem.

You have no idea what you want to do.

I completely understand. I’ve been in that situation and you’re not alone.

The topic came from a question that I got in an email from a podcast listener. Her question is very common. It’s something I experienced so I know there are others who feel the same way.

She asked me what she should do if she has no idea what to do. She wants to take action, but doesn’t know what to take action towards. She still doesn’t know what she wants, and even what she is good at.

She can’t figure out any action plan. She wants to do something and change the way things are now. She lacks a dream.

It is frustrating to be in a current life situation that you don’t want to be in. You want more and do more but just don’t know what. Maybe you’re stuck in a dead end job, or you’re unemployed. Either way you want a change. You feel that if you just knew what you wanted to do in life, you’d focus all your attention on it and work so hard at it.

But what is it?

In this episode, I talk about how I overcome the wall of being unable to find out that one thing I was meant to do.

Some topics I cover:

  • Why I felt like I wasted my 20’s
  • The different jobs that I thought I possibly wanted to do
  • When I decided to take massive action and change my life, what the first thing I focused on
  • The five things that I did to help me find my answers
  • and more…

Stop Your Limiting Beliefs - Get Busy Living Blog

In Oxford, England, 25-year-old medical student Roger Bannister cracks track and field’s most notorious barrier: the four-minute mile. Bannister won the mile race with a time of 3 minutes and 59.4 seconds.

For years, so many athletes had tried and failed to run a mile in less than four minutes that people made it out to be a physical impossibility. The world record for a mile was 4 minutes and 1.3 seconds, set by Gunder Hagg of Sweden in 1945. Nine years later Roger finally broke it. Within a year, 30 runner ran a mile under four minutes. The year after that 300 did.

What was the difference? The power of beliefs.

Before runners believed it was impossible. They tried and they failed. After it had proven it could be done, hundreds of runners were able to do it. Physically they were the same runner. What changed was their beliefs.

I wouldn’t be in the position I am right now talking with you, if I didn’t believe that I was truly going to turn my life around. I tried many times before, but I always lacked belief that it was possible for me. I just hoped that it was, but hope wasn’t enough.

What was different this time was my unwavering belief that I was going to change. No matter what. I was willing to do what it took. Even when that initial excitement wore off, I was still determined. It was that determination that changed my life and has led me to this point. Even when I felt down and had doubts, belief that I was going to make it, lifted me up and kept me moving forward.

If we are going to be successful in achieving our goals , we have to believe that we are capable of making it happen. we have to believe we’ve got what it takes, and that we are able to pull it off. We have to believe in ourself.

Where do our beliefs come from? Do they come from what we watch on TV? Do they come from the conversations we hear all day long? They can. They can also come from our parents and the people we spend the most time with. If we want to succeed, we have to start to choose our beliefs wisely rather than being a sponge and just soaking up whatever belief comes our way.

What I cover in this episode:
  • What feeling stuck really means
  • What happens when you start off with the mindset of failure
  • The story of Steve Jobs and the first iPod
  • How lifting a car changed a grandmother’s beliefs
  • Four sources where our beliefs come from
  • How to shape our beliefs deliberatly
  • An unbelievable story about not knowing something is impossible

Change Your Life Change Your Morning Routine - Get Busy Living Podcast

What time did you wake up today? What did you do in the first hour you woke up? Was it productive and empowering or was it the same old routine you’ve done for a long time?

If you check your email, Facebook, and turn on your TV first thing every morning, you’re not maximizing that very first hour of the day that you have.

It’s not secret that many high level people and CEOs have a morning routine. They know their day will be busy, but they find the time in the morning to focus on improving themselves.

I came across the benefits of a morning routine when I began to turn my life around. I had never had a morning routine. I realized I should try to have a routine because the results I had gotten so far were not the results I wanted. Therefore, I had to try something different.

My morning routine consisted of visualization, affirmations, reading, writing in my gratitude journal, and exercise all before I checked my email and turned on my computer.

I have no doubt that by having a morning routine with behaviors that increased my health and my mind were crucial in changing my life. No matter what happened during the day, I always set aside time in the morning for my own personal development.

In today’s episode, I talk to Hal Elrod, who wrote a book called “The Miracle Morning: The Not So Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life (Before 8am). I read his book about a year ago and loved it. He went into so much detail about the benefits of a morning routine and how it changed his life. He’s shares what six things he does every morning that has changed his life and the lives of the people he teaches.

Besides an author, he’s a professional speaker, and success coach. What’s even more inspiring is how he overcome two events that sank him to rock bottom. One time actually killing him. You will love his story.

Other topics in this episode:

  • Life S.A.V.E.R.S - the foundation of his morning routine.
  • What actor Will Smith said is the single most influence thing to his success.
  • What helped Hal get out of a depression.
  • The 6 minute Miracle Morning routine for busy people.
  • The clarity components - What do you want? Why do you want it? What’s preventing you from getting it or what will get in your way? What do you need to do each day that will virtually guarantee your success? Who’s going to hold you accountable?
  • Two simple questions to answer in your daily journal that will make you feel great and make progress on your goals.
  • How to get that feeling of Christmas morning back.
  • How to become a morning person, when you’re not.
  • Being hit by a drunk driver, clinical dead for 6 minutes, in a coma, and being told he’d never walk again.
  • What he did after waking up from his coma that doctor’s thought wasn’t normal.
  • The 5 minute rule.
  • Why going into debt was worse than dying.
  • The one thing that changed everything for him.

Today’s topic is going to be about one of our biggest enemy: failure. The truth is many people would rather die than face any failure. They would rather go to their grave with feelings of regret, than take a risk, follow their dream because they are afraid to fail.

Failure doesn’t have to be a bad thing. It’s not the end of the world, but a lot of people believe that.

People want perfection. They expect the first business they start to be the big one, or the first book they write to be a bestseller. They don’t want to be rejected. They don’t want to hear people say they think it’s the dumbest idea they’ve ever heard. They are afraid to hear the word no.

All this imagining goes on before they even begin. It’s all in their mind. It scares them so they never begin. They’d rather play it safe.

Even if they do begin, they’re so scared of failing that they don’t try that hard. They aren’t giving it their full effort. Then when they inevitably fail, they’ll say to themselves, “see I knew I’d screw up again”.

Maybe they’ve failed before and that memories is still fresh .

No one wants to hear the word “no”. But how many no’s are you willing to hear until you get your first yes? some people stop after the first no. Maybe some will stop after the 3rd. Some never even make an attempt.

Would you believe someone heard the word no 1009 times until he got a yes? It’s true.

I’m going to share with you a list of famous people that most of us know who have changed history, but all heard the word no or failed before they found success.

In this episode of the Get Busy Living podcast, I talk about a big problem and that problem is many of us want life to be easier. We want change to be easier. We want to lose weight easier. We want to have more confidence easier. We want money to be growing on trees. We want everything to go right.

It’s dangerous to want everything in life to be easier.

Be careful if you ask for an easy life and get it, you may have a life that you don’t like.

I talk about what you can do instead of wishing life was easier. It has to do a lot with you.

004: The Power Mini Habits: Smaller Habits, Bigger Resultshttp://getbusylivingblog.com/004-the-power-mini-habits-smaller-habits-bigger-results/ http://getbusylivingblog.com/004-the-power-mini-habits-smaller-habits-bigger-results/#comments Thu, 30 Jan 2014 16:13:04 +0000 http://getbusylivingblog.com/?p=5995 Power of mini habits

In the very first interview for The Get Busy Living podcast, I have a topic that will help many of you in 2014.

I have Stephen Guise who writes at Deep Existence and is now author of Mini Habits: Smaller Habits, Bigger Results

I love Stephen’s story because he’s a regular guy who’s struggled so long to form positive habits. One of his big one was exercise. For many years, he’d be motivated to exercise consistently, and always failed.

Frustrated by his failure, he accidentally stared his first mini habit by just doing one push-up. Just one push-up a day! How simple is that? He figured he could not fail by setting a goal of one push-up a day.

From this tiny beginning, he’s now consistently exercise. It’s a part of him. He doesn’t have to wait to be in the mood, or find motivation to go.

He’s also done this with other areas in life like writing. His mini-habit helped him write his first book.

Here is what you will learn in this podcast:

  • Why motivation is a horrible strategy.
  • How one pushup a day turned into a regular habit exercise.
  • Why willpower is more powerful than motivation.
  • The benefits of mini habits vs one big habit.
  • The reason 21 days does not make a habit.
  • Why stupid small habits is how you should start.
  • How mini habits can overcome your fears.

003: Cleaning Your Brain of Dirty Waterhttp://getbusylivingblog.com/podcast-003-third/ http://getbusylivingblog.com/podcast-003-third/#comments Wed, 22 Jan 2014 01:26:24 +0000 http://getbusylivingblog.com/?p=5937 Glass of water

This is your brain….

The dominant thoughts in our mind controls what we eventually do or do not do. If the filter is dirty and full of negativity, everything that comes out is going to be dirty and negative. We’re going to be worried, pessimistic, and stressed out.

How can we expect to be motivated, think positive, and feel happy if our dominant thoughts make us feel like that?

How does this filter get so dirty? It comes from what we consume daily. It’s the information that we allow into our brains. Most of the time we aren’t even aware of what we’re giving attention to.

We can reverse this. We can clean our minds and fill it with fresh clean water. This will flush out all that disgusting water.

In this podcast episode, I talk about the importance of feeding our minds with clean water. I share what I did to cut out the dirty water, and how I filled my mind with clean water instead.

Changing this made a huge difference because it changed the way I thought. It changed the dominant thoughts in my mind. I felt less worried and stressed and felt more optimistic and relaxed.

002: How bad do you want to succeed?http://getbusylivingblog.com/podcast-002-title/ http://getbusylivingblog.com/podcast-002-title/#comments Tue, 21 Jan 2014 03:29:46 +0000 http://getbusylivingblog.com/?p=5935 We all want to achieve our goals and fulfill our potential, but how far are we willing to go? That’s what I talk about in this second episode.

I talk about what Navy SEALs training is like and a story about how far one sailor went to make sure he passed. It’s a crazy story, but showed me what some will do to not give up.

I didn’t know much about their training, but have immense respect for what they have to do just to pass. If we could just take a fraction of that determination, we could achieve so much.

Hope you enjoy!

Welcome to my new podcast, Get Busy Living!

I’m so excited to finally go live with this.

Like my blog, what I’ll be talking about is how to get to get the most of your life. My goal is to help you live with more passion, work towards your goals, and be excited about life again.

The plan for now is to make this a weekly podcast. It’ll be a mix of solo shows (just me) and interviews with ordinary people who are doing extraordinary things.

In this first episode, I share my story. Some of you know my background, while others may not.

My life hasn’t always been great. For most of my adult life, I’ve felt lost and stuck in life. in 2010, I had my breaking point and began to write a new chapter in my life. It’s been a 3+ year journey now with lots of ups and down, but much better than where I used to be.

In this first episode here are some of the links I mention:
